Gift Tags and Lemonade Stand

Katherine and Allison decide to create a gift tag and lemonade stand on a sunny Sunday afternoon. The original plan was to sell just gift tags but they felt they need sometime else to attract customers.

They made $12 but spent $6 on lemons at Costco. Their net profit is $6 which they divided evenly. Now they’re discussing whether or not they should share the profits or allocate the profits based on who sold what. Christine and I get to explain how business partners share in the profits and losses.

OWS Last Day of School 2012

Katherine’s last day of school for 3rd grade with Ms. Iverson and Mr. Shuel. Allison’s last day of 1st grade with Mrs. Sorenson and Ms. Grijalva at Open Window School. Both girls had wonderful teachers and years. We couldn’t have asked for a better teacher in Ms. Iverson for Katherine. She was able to work with Katherine, reinforcing her strengths and working on her areas of needed growth.

American Girl Playdate and Katherine’s Second to Last Basketball Game of 2012

Rosebud is growing up. Every morning we comment that she has grown over night. She has also perfected the “please play with me as I’m so cute technique”. One of the key projects for this week was a Pueblo Indian diorama. The first attempt used Wheaties and honey. Unfortunately, by morning the houses had collapsed. Though disappointed Katherine decided that using clay and wooden sticks would make it stronger.

Katherine played in her second to last basketball game of the season at OWS versus the Jewish Day School. Katherine is tall and plays good defensive; however, the OWS team isn’t quite yet competitive with the other girls teams in the league. Christine and I have been coaching her to stand between the opposing player and the basketball hoop and to keep her hands up. She’s learning and having a good time. It’s also great exercise as the girls have to run up and down the court.

We’re hoping that basketball becomes Katherine’s “team” sport, similar to how Allison has chosen soccer as hers.

Finally, Tori and Katherine had a playdate at the American Girl store. They sampled snacks and shopped for new American Girl gear.

Potluck Party with Rosebud

The potluck families came over Saturday night to meet Rosebud. The Tseng’s dog Chase and Rosebud had a great time running around the yard. Moxie, the Roshak’s dog, loved to herd the other dogs. Hoover, the Silverman’s dog, loved to just run around and look for food. The Laverings came later after their baseball games and brought Lucky back to see us. Parker and Jensen loved holding a new puppy.

Lucky Visits for a Week

Lucky visited us for a week while the Laverings went skiing in Bachelor. Caring for Lucky was good training and preparation for taking Rosebud home the following weekend. We learned how to block off the kitchen and made a run to Babies R Us to get some gates. Also, we stocked up on chew toys. As it turned out Lucky’s favorite chew toy was Allison.

Pictures

I finally downloaded hundreds of pictures from a couple cameras.

Yes – Katherine lost that loose tooth. It had been getting very wobbly for a couple weeks. Finally, Patty looked at Katherine and said, “your tooth is sitting sideways…” and plucked the tooth right out. Katherine was delighted to have the Tooth Fairy give her $5 for her first tooth. (Going rate is less for following teeth!)

Our kids are more aware of money and how to save it for special purchases. Allison saved her money and bought a $20 Hello Kitty stuffed animal at Build-A-Bear last month. Katherine couldn’t afford that, so she settled for a post-holiday moose with light-up antlers on sale for $10. ๐Ÿ™‚ We also took them to our bank last weekend and opened their savings accounts. They were very thrilled to use the change machine, and the prospects of depositing money is very exciting.

You’ll see that both girls are riding bikes that are just a little too big for them. Allison likes to ride the 16″ Novarra bike; since she can’t fully extend her legs all the way around, she’s actually slower on this bike than her 12″ bike. Katherine flies on her new 20″ bike. It’s got six gears and handbrakes. It was very amusing the other day watching Katherine riding down the road with Steve running full-tilt next to her.
