Making Pies with Sharon and Jamey

Sharon and Jamey visited over the 4th of July holidays. One of the highlights of their visit is making pies from scratch. Jamey and Sharon patiently walk Allison and Katherine through the process. Allison’s favorite saying: “No, I do it!”.

2012 July 4th Parade

The Whitmers came over to join us in the Yarrow Point 4th of July parade. Katherine had her cast on so she couldn’t ride a bike or scooter in the parade. Allison decided to go the scooter route this year. Once again the highlights of the day were the candy thrown by the parade participants and snow cones. In the evening we went over to the Belfiore’s house to watch the Yarrow Point fireworks.

Sharon and Jamey arrived later that night.

Yarrow Point Pet Parade 2012

Katherine, Christine and Rosebud participated in the 2012 Yarrow Point Pet Parade. Rosebud won youngest contestant. Tori’s dog Teddy won best of show. The theme this year was the Summer Olympics. Rosebud, according to Christine was one of the most beautiful dogs there. Katherine dressed up Rosebud in a swimsuit and made an Olympic torch.

Katherine’s Broken Fingers

On Sunday Katherine crashed on her scooter going down the driveway. She fell on her left ring and pinky finger. We immediately iced the fingers and they started to swell. Later in the evening we tried to immobile the fingers with a split but Katherine said it hurt too much. Monday morning arrives and the fingers are still sore and swollen. Dad decides to call Pediatrics Associates and have them examine Katherine. We arrive for a 9:40A appointment. Pediatrics Associates takes some x-rays and determines that Katherine has broken her left ring finger and possibly her left pinky finger. They refer us to a orthopedic specialist as the break is near the growth plate and want to make sure the bones are set properly.

Off we go to a 10:30A appointment with the orthopedic surgeon who decides to take another set of x-rays. Katherine is a champ throughout the process. They determine that Katherine has indeed broken her left ring finger and her left pinky. To immobilize her fingers, Katherine must have a cast for 2-3 weeks that goes up right before her elbow. She gets to choose a color and decides on hot pink.

After the doctor’s visit we visit the drug store to stock up on Tylenol as Katherine is still in a bit of pain. We go to Katherine’s basketball practice but she’s unable to participate. We had to also cancel her piano lessons. We stop her gymnastics classes for the month of July.

The afternoon and evening is spent getting used to having a heavier left arm. She’s able to take a bath with the cast double bagged. Katherine finally falls asleep. Mom and Dad are tired. Long day.

Purple fingers

Katherine’s timing was impeccable. She has practiced all week for her piano lesson tomorrow. She’s also been playing basketball every day, sometimes two to three times a day, running drills that she learned last week. So, what did she do before dinner?

She rode her scooter down the driveway post-walk with Rosie. She fell and crashed on her left hand. The #4 and #5 fingers are purple and swollen to 1.5x their original size. Katherine has been dipping her fingers in ice water. We even gave her Advil before bed. There is lots of drama – “My finger is going to fall off…I can’t bend it…etc.”

We’re going to stay on schedule tomorrow. It’s going to make for an interesting week…

Gift Tags and Lemonade Stand

Katherine and Allison decide to create a gift tag and lemonade stand on a sunny Sunday afternoon. The original plan was to sell just gift tags but they felt they need sometime else to attract customers.

They made $12 but spent $6 on lemons at Costco. Their net profit is $6 which they divided evenly. Now they’re discussing whether or not they should share the profits or allocate the profits based on who sold what. Christine and I get to explain how business partners share in the profits and losses.
